THE MORNINGSTONE LEGACY - 1987 TO THE PRESENT

CHANGELING (1974), MORNINGSTONE (1987),
and CHANGELING'S RETURN (2017) . . .
a truly authentic evolutionary musical fantasy

Changeling’s Return provides the screenplay for the musical adventure of an American rock star whose out-of-body experience, set in the contemporary Midlands of England, and in the supernatural realm of Morningstone, triggers a sudden and profound commitment to the environment and a dramatic change in his music, its lyrical content, and its purpose. In Western folklore, a changeling is a fairy or troll child placed in a stolen human baby’s cradle. Whether Morgan is an adult, taken and pixilated in the supernatural realm, or a changeling, reared by humans, who upon being returned to his otherworldly roots, is reawaked to his origins and returns to our world to fulfill his supernatural purpose is left clouded. The story works either way. The book features an introductory interview of the author by acclaimed music journalist and pop culture historian, Harvey Kubernik, a multi-page section titled “His Secrets All Revealed,” about the history, folklore, mythology and supernatural elements in the tale, and a Selected Bibliography.              View Sample Pages.

TIME, PLACE AND ACTION

Morningstone nearly made it into production several times. Locations were scouted, budgets prepared, completion bonds promised, production staff alerted, but funding failed. However, the research that went into all that prep made the tale ever more fascinating and achievable. This illustrated essay focuses on the proposed U.K. production. Today's Changeling's Return is more timely than ever before. The story exists. The music exists. The mysteries exist. All that is missing now is a reliable source of funding . . . MYSTICAL ENCOUNTER
(Songs From Changeling's Return)

Songs composed with programs in mind, marrying lyric, melody, tonality and rhythm, are spells, the stuff of sympathetic magic, a concept explored in Changeling’s Return. Many of my favorite composers wrote program music. Debussy's Impressionistic works, Richard Strauss’ tone poems and Stravinsky's ballets were all program music, intended to convey in music, a sense of their subject. Goldsmith's score for Planet of the Apes, Williams' score for Star Wars and Jarre's score for Lawrence of Arabia are all program music and so is my Mystical Encounter.
